Mount Olive Community Bible Church has a history of over 200 years. We have built on biblical truth and principles. We honor the past, and desire to impact the future for Christ.
The original Mount Olive Baptist Church, a log meeting house, was built in 1753 on ground donated by
James Heaton, who deeded an acre of land to four denominations, Baptist, Congregationalists,
Episcopalians and Presbyterians for the erection of a meeting house, cemetery, and a school.
The original church was first known as the Roxbury Church, named after the township in which it was
situated. It had a seating capacity of about forty and was considered large at that time. Reverend Revune
Runion, also pastor of Morristown Baptist Church; was the first of forty-seven ministers thathave served
the church.
The log church was built jointly by members of several congregations. They worshiped together for
nearly forty years. Then plans were made for a better edifice. In 1795 the church became known as the
Schooley's Mountain Church.
A year-round Sunday School has been maintained since 1914. In 1993, Neil B . Lines became Pastor,
after his father, Neil M. Lines retired after thirty-three years of service to the church.
In 2003, the church celebrated two hundred and fifty years of sharing Christ with the community with
several changes. The church's name was changed to Mount Olive Community Bible Church to more
effectively reflect it's dedication to bringing God's Word to Mount Olive. The church also donated the old
church on the corner of Flanders-Drakestown and Mount Olive roads, to the Mount Olive Historical
Society. The church also donated $25,000 dollars to the Historical Society towards the preservation of
the structure.
The church had plans drawn up for a large multi-purpose structure to be built adjacent to the current
church on Flanders-Drakestown Road. This new building will be used as a fellowship hall, a gymnasium
and will hold several classrooms.
